SMP CoLab Exclusive
Devised by jeweler and qualified gemologist Rowena Murray, the Montana Sapphire Gravel Washing Kit explores the magic of material discovery.
Inspired by the story of the Yogo Creek sapphires, first found in Missouri River in the 1860s, this kit captures the experience of early gold prospectors, who panned the river gravel and made an unexpected discovery.
Wash out the Montana river gravel, find the sapphires and fold them away in an illustrated 'stone paper', the traditional folded parcel for rough stones.
The kit contains:
- Montana sapphire gravel containing rough sapphires
- Muslin washing bag
- Bamboo tweezers
- Blotting paper
- 'Stone paper' printed with fully illustrated instructions and the Story of Montana Sapphires drawn and written by Rowena herself
The kit is packaged in a brass wire stitched box, made in Sheffield, England. Box size is .86" (2.2cm) x 4.9" (12.5cm) x 5" (12.8cm)
SMP Colab works with artists, makers, designers and independent businesses to create new kits and products. They each celebrate a particular material or method and marry exceptional skill with design. We believe a well designed outcome can ignite the desire to try something new.
