The Blackwing story is a wonderful tribute to our devotion to the most basic but indispensable of tools. Chuck Jones used them to create Bugs Bunny. John Steinbeck, Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein were devotees. Eberhard Faber began production of this iconic pencil in the 1930's. Considered by some to be the finest writing instrument ever made, the Blackwing 602 pencil became the standard-bearer.
But in 1998, production stopped. And here's where the story makes us smile. After discovering that some of Palomino's higher-end pencils were comparable, the Blackwing community asked Palomino founder and CEO, Charles Berolzhimer, to re-introduce the brand. And he did.
A few years ago, Palomino gave new life to the original Blackwing 602 with its graphite composition, shape and replaceable eraser (ideal for writers and every-day use) as well as the Blackwing Palomino with a softer lead better suited for artists. Recently, the Pearl was added.
These pencils really are a pleasure to write with. There's something rich and just right in the line they create. The erasers are superb and a pencil as unique as the Blackwing deserves an eraser to match. Available in traditional black, white and pink.
