Tonkin thread is a bulk polyester gimped yarn with a slight puffy texture and a strand of gold lurex for sparkle.
Tonkin is made by Ets Toulemonde, one of the last remaining French sewing and embroidery thread manufacturers in Northern France. Originally made for haute couture embroiders, it does not fray. The colors are bright and very well done.
Each card contains 11 yards (10 m) in four strands.
We currently have eight colors available: Azure, Black, Deep Purple, Emerald, Old Rose, Orange, Sand and Slate
Ets Toulemonde's products are exclusively distributed in the US in partnership with Sajou, a thriving haberdashery business founded by Federique Crestin-Billet in 2005.
Federique's love for her craft, history and country are visible in everything she does from her manner, to her products and their packaging. Sajou aids in the preservation and growth of numerous French small manufacturers, including Ets Toulemonde.
